Voice Piano or Guitar
These ballads are from Britten's 1941 operetta Paul Bunyan. They link the staged scenes of the operetta and relate the 'off-stage' episodes of Bunyan's life including his marriage and the subsequent death of his wife. In the original performance the singer accompanied himself on the banjo; these arrangements for piano or guitar were made by Britten when he came to revise sections of Paul Bunyan in 1974.
